Oliver went through a lot last 9 days (which was his whole life). His vitals are good and stable today and his CO2 was 50 (lowest ever). They’ve pretty much left him alone, so no tests, no handling, just R&R. He needed that. We talked with Dr about where we go from here and the emerging consensus seems to be to wait few days, give him hydrocortisone, get him off the fentanyl completely and pull the tube out when he wakes up (assuming his vitals stay as they are or get better). Hopefully, he will then breathe on his own. We are not too crazy about the steroids, but it does not seem that there is another option.
We got him to rest on the side and he was happy when we gently confined him.
