Around the world in Cessna 182

June 27, 2004
Anadyr, Russia (UHMA) to Wales, Alaska (IWK)

This is very exciting... after a very long time I am coming home. I did not quite make it to Salt Lake City yet, but I have arrived to the USA. It is great to travel, but it is also great to come home.

I've decided to wait for the Sun to come out, as I wanted to fly over the Bering Strait during the daylight. It turned out that waiting was not necessary. At 7 am Salt Lake City time (01:00 Anadyr time), the Sun started coming out. Not quite midnight sun, but close. I quickly got ready and took off, heading 070, directly towards the Wales, Alaska.

I strayed a bit from my route in order to fly directly over the Bering Strait (OK, in order to take a cool picture of the Bering Sea and the Chukchi Sea with the Bering Strait in the middle). The picture is not overly great, but the places do sound kind of exotic which makes it interesting.

Other than that, it was interesting to finally visit the last frontier (not to be confused with the final frontier). I've been planning to visit Alaska for quite some time now, and it seems that this year I will finally get to go there (no, not by the FS2004, but by Delta). I really cannot wait.

After flying over the Bering Strait, I landed at the Wales airport and immediately went to create flight plan for my next leg.
